Lifelong Learning in the Midlands

Does your Branch have an established learning centre ?

Do you want  more free courses including languages and IT offered ?

Does your learning centre require new IT equipment ?

Are you a ULR who wants to develop but are unsure in what direction ?

Do you want to get involved with lifelong learning and become a ULR ?

If you want to talk to me about any of these questions, then please contact me now!! I am here to assist you, through your Branch, achieve your goals.

We currently have 41 learning centres in our region at different stages of development. We have trained 220 ULRs who support these learning centres. The ULRs are also getting the BUZZ of achievment by becoming tutors and delivering Information, Advice and Guidance to our members. This funding increases the sustainability of our learning centres and delivers educational opportunities. The Midlands achieved the Matrix accreditation in July 09 !!

Workplace learning is boosting union membership.

Trade union membership is on the rise in workplaces where unions are promoting learning . The Learning and Organising report ‘Union strength through the learning agenda' also reveals that unions enjoy a stronger standing in the workplace where they have reacted to the learning needs of the workforce. The perception of the union improves amongst all employees and the union-employer relationship improves in companies where ULRs play a strong role.

My key objectives are to:

. Work with the branches to deliver opportunities for the members and ULRs
. Source funding to deliver these opportunities
. Identifying members learning needs
· Providing information and advice about learning
· Assisting ULRs in setting up their Learning Centres
· Negotiating with providers to give our members the best opportunities
· Consulting the employer about carrying out such activities

Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant
