International Trade Union Solidarity Appeal

The CWU Education and Training department launched our financial appeal in April 2005 at Alvescot Lodge to coincide with the visit of Pete Pinlac - President of the CWU of the Philippines.

Pete Pinlac, President of the Philippines Communications Workers' Union

The aim of the appeal is to provide funding for practical support for trade unions in the Philippines, Iraq and Nicaragua, where basic resources such as phones educational materials and IT equipment are in short supply. These are things which British trade unionists take for granted, and through the Appeal we hope to help trade unions to support, organise and educate their activists.

So far we have raised almost £3000 and have already exceeded our target for 2005. Activists attending CWU courses at Alvescot Lodge have wholeheartedly risen to the challenge and raised the funding through raffles, quizzes and karaoke nights.

Any Branch who wishes to make a donation to the appeal can do so by sending a cheque made payable to the CWU to:
